Whoever chose The Shangri-Las Past, Present and Future to soundtrack this Miu Miu show deserves a bonus.
That strange Moonlit Sonata monologue about a girl, traumatised by some mysterious previous event, rebuffing the advances of a suitor chimed beautifully with this hard little gem of a Miu Miu collection.
The cutesy was made creepy and the sweet rendered sinister in clothes based on late 1950s silhouettes – so lots of circle skirts and high trousers. Naive, almost trashy colours clashed and frothy ruffles in pink, black or scarlet were sprinkled like icing sugar everywhere from crop tops to croc heels.
Brocade and knitwear were panelled in incongruous competition with magnified picnic blanket tartan. Oversized leather overcoats in red and aqua were classic Prada-stable pieces.
The models walked through a cloister of wooden arches that Miuccia Prada apparently said was not designed to be churchy (but was), and were watched by Liv Tyler, Shailene Woodley, Léa Seydoux and Hailee Steinfeld.
