POLICE have apprehended one suspect in connection with a raid on the Valentino store on Sloane Street early yesterday morning, a spokesperson confirmed today. The “smash and grab” took place just before 1am – with some reports suggesting up to £20,000 of stock was taken.
The boutique was targeted by five assailants, who arrived on three scooters and were “all wearing dark clothing and helmets,” according to police. The robbers used one of the bikes to force the door open and “made off with a quantity of high value handbags” – two scooters heading towards Marylebone, the third towards Kilburn.
A man – who has now been charged – was arrested shortly after in the Ladbroke Grove area of the city, although no stolen property has been recovered as yet. Police confirmed that the investigation is ongoing, but are not yet linking it to other similar offences.
Chanel’s store on Brompton road was robbed in April, and more than 20 high-value bags were among the pieces taken.
